Dr. Richard Houghten elected as chair of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County

Dr. Richard Houghten of Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies was elected as chair of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County Inc. for 2012-13, the group announced.

Rodney Smith of Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute will serve as chair elect, and Tom Wilkinson of Seacoast National Bank as secretary/treasurer.

At their annual membership meeting on Tuesday, EDC members re-elected Bob Baldassari of PGA Golf Club to a three-year term as an at-large director and elected Robert Fuller of DPR Construction to a three-year term as an at-large director to fill the expiring term of David Skiles.

Holding ex-officio seats on the EDC board are St. Lucie County, the City of Fort Pierce, the City of Port St. Lucie, Indian River State College, Florida Atlantic University, the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, the St. Lucie County School District and the Workforce Innovations Board. Its mission is to attract new business to the county and to support the expansion and retention of existing businesses.
